Monster Wednesdays

What are monsters?

The dictionary tells us that a Monster is an "ugly terrifying being, animal or person, found in mythology or created by the imagination, especially something fierce that kills people that often feature in folklore and fairy tales as evil beings resembling a mixture of different animals."

Pop culture tells us that, although there are those that are in fact inherently evil, most of them are just misunderstood lonely beings that yearn for acceptance.

Common knowledge tells us that they are unnatural beings that dwell in dark places, hidden from our view until they decide to make us their victims. People have often claimed to have found them lying under their beds or hiding in their closets at night.

In reality, the word monster is derived from the Latin word "monstrum", which in literal terms means omen. As such, it is understandable that they are often described as evil. But, there isn't just one clear description for what it is, leaving the term “monster” to be found, just like beauty, in the eye of the beholder.

Personally, I've always been fascinated by the unexplained and now, I will share that fascination with those of you that want to read about it.

If it's unexplained, then how will I write about it, you ask?

Easy, the fact that it is “unexplained” doesn't mean that countless of people before us haven't tried to explain it. Sure, most of it is speculation, but it provides everything necessary to awaken new generations of believers.

I'm not saying that they're real, but you can't prove that they're not either. Just because you can't see something, doesn't mean that it doesn't exist, ask a priest.

In honor of the ever present paranormal investigator/weirdo ghost girl that lives inside me, I've created Monster Wednesdays on my blog.

Every Wednesday there will be a new post up with information, images and lore about some kind of monster, mythical creature or supernatural being.

You can pitch in if you'd like, feel free to email me if you have knowledge of any particular beastie and want it featured.
